Chainable Privacy Policy
Chainable is a word-chaining game. We collect only what the game needs to work, we never sell your information, and we never ask for your location. This page explains, in plain words, what we keep and why.
What we collect
| Information | Why we need it | Who can see it |
|---|---|---|
| Your username (chosen by you or assigned for the beta) | It is how you sign in and how your games are credited to you. | Other players, on leaderboards, in the WordChain "River", and beside your chains. |
| Your sign-in PIN | To keep your account yours. | Nobody. It is stored on our server and never shown. |
| Country and, if you're in the US, state — optional | So players can compare results by region. You may choose "Parts Unknown" or "I'd Rather Not Say" instead. | Other players, beside your name. You type it; we never detect it. |
| Your games — the word chains you build, scores, times, the format played, and when | They are the game: your history, personal bests, leaderboards, and the daily challenge. | Your chains and scores may appear to other players on leaderboards and in the River. |
| Words you try that the game doesn't recognise | To improve the game's dictionary. Some may be reviewed and added. | The Chainable team. |
| A device notification token | To send you notifications you've turned on (for example, that the daily challenge is closing). | Nobody. It identifies your device to the notification service only. |
| Your name and email — only if you ask to join the beta on our website | So we can invite you. We keep them until you’re invited or you ask us to delete them. | The Chainable team. They are never shown to other players and never sold or shared. |
| Basic technical information — app version, device type, crash reports | To fix bugs. | The Chainable team, and Apple or Google's beta tools if you send feedback through them. |
What we do not do
- We never ask for or use your device's location. Country and state are typed by you, only if you choose.
- We do not show ads or use advertising trackers.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your information with data brokers.
- We do not collect your contacts, photos, or anything outside the game.
- We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Where your information lives
Game data is stored on servers we rent from Railway, in the United States. The app keeps your sign-in and a copy of your settings on your own phone. Notifications are delivered through Expo's push service, and beta versions are distributed through Apple's TestFlight or Google Play, each under their own privacy terms.
Your choices
- Notifications: turn them off any time in the app's Account page or your phone's settings.
- Location: optional; change or remove it any time on your Account page.
- Delete your account or your games: email us (below) and we will remove your account and the games credited to it. Chains that other players have already seen may remain visible without your name.
Beta testing
If you ask to join the beta on our website we keep your name and email until you’re invited or ask us to delete it. We don’t use them for anything else, and we don’t add you to a mailing list.
During the beta, the game may change often and data may occasionally be reset. Feedback and screenshots you send through TestFlight go to Apple and to us. Please don't include other people's personal information in feedback.
Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect, we will update this page and the date at the top, and tell you in the app.
